Comiket 85 Winter Review!

Here’s a look inside the winter Comic Market in Japan. It’s crowded.

2013 Game Story of the Year Podcast!

It’s that time again. RtP! decrees the best video game stories of the year. Major spoilers.

Comiket 85 Cosplay Video!

Winter Comiket was a lot more comfortable than summer with beautiful weather all three days. And since it wasn’t 140 degrees, the bigger costumes came out to play. Take a look at our first steadicam music video. It was challenging to film in the swarms of people but Lost Link managed to capture a few shots of the cosplay crowd. Winter Comiket review video to come.

Musings of Mudora XIII: Contrasting Hearts

king

Light and darkness has been a central theme in the Kingdom Hearts series and has been explored over seven games now. While I feel that its story has become bloated with unnecessary drivel, each game still retains remnants of what came before: a strong, simple take on the classic battle between light and dark that takes place in all of us. And nowhere in the series does this theme ring most true than where it all began: the first Kingdom Hearts.

Musings of Mudora XII: Memories of the Moon

old

How’s that for an alliterative title? I’ve recently begun a sort of “indie game binge” wherein I play a bunch of indie games that I’ve heard promising things about. They’re a nice break from the 15+ hour blockbusters that I’ve been playing and give me a wider spectrum of games-played for our end of the year podcast. The shorter playtime may also explain why RtP! has made more than one post in the same week! Wow! But moving on to the main topic, and boy what a topic it is, I’ll start off by saying it’s a shame this game escaped my radar in 2011 because Freebird’s To The Moon would have rivaled Ghost Trick as my pick for best game story of the year.

Musings of Mudora XI: Stanley’s Job

stan

With the recent release of the HD remake of The Stanley Parable on Steam, I decided to give the game a spin after hearing promising things about an intriguing demo. I skipped the demo hoping the game would be more rewarding by knowing next to nothing about it. I was right. (Still, having watched the demo afterward I must give them credit for creating a demo that very accurately portrays what the experience will be like while at the same time showing next to nothing of the actual game). This article will offer my brief analysis of the game without spoiling any of the actual in-game events.

Video Games Are Not a Waste of Time!

Or are they?

Comiket 2013 Cosplay Showcase!

The crowds have dissipated, the sun has set and the all the hentai sold. Comiket 84 is finished. But the cosplay lives on in this music video (which a quick youtube search suggests) is the very first to come out of Comiket in Odaiba, Japan.

Special thanks to the rockin idol, Yuriko Tiger!

Hey, We’re at Comiket!

We survived day one! Sunburns and mega crowds and 118 degrees aside, it was pretty successful. Got some arty merchandise, filmed some Japanese cosplay, started production on a music video and met some pretty cool peeps! Now to get some sleep in preparation for DAY 2.

Rescue the Princess! – #0030! Bioshock Infinite!

And we’re back with a new GAME podcast. Today we’re discussing the highs and lows of Bioshock Infinite. Spoilers abound!

Wonder Festival 2013 Cosplay Takeover!

Here’s the music video from Wonder Fest, courtesy of some talented Japanese cosplayers.

Summer Wonder Festival 2013

wonder fest

Yesterday I had a chance to stop by the Makuhari Convention center in Chiba to check out what Japan’s Wonder Festival was all about. The convention focuses on figures and lots of companies had booths set up to reveal upcoming releases. However, there were many other things being showcased and sold including steam punk gear, a giant King Ghidorah marionette, and some damn creepy statues to name a few. The halls also had some elaborate anime decorations (like the wall from Shingeki no Kyojin) and there was an anime concert at the end of the day. And of course, wherever crowds of otaku gather, cosplayers are not far behind.

Anime Cast 0001! ATTACK ON TITAN

It’s the first podcast from our new podcast section because what Japan-based show is complete without a strong dose of anime? We’ll be periodically updating whenever we find shows that we’re all willing to watch (blame b-rock and his tastes). First up: Attack on Titan.

Warning: This podcast compares the anime and manga as well as offers some crazy theories into the Titan lore. Thus spoilers abound.

Rescue the Princess! E3 2013 Impressions Podcast!

Because our site doesn’t quite have the credibility (YET) to win us tickets to the convention, we were stuck at home watching the event on our fancy computers. But that won’t stop us from delivering incredibly insightful impressions from the show!

The Real Excitements of E3

logo

Here at RTP, we could care less about the so called “console war”. Though we may tend to poke fun at the culture and community surrounding the video game marketing industry (as you’ll see with our next set of podcasts), we are much more concerned with quality gaming experiences. We do not simply look forward to the next generation of games with regards to graphics but rather with the new and creative ways developers can tell stories within the video game medium.

While E3 might be filled to the brim with big PR announcements, new technology reveals along with some innovative/gimmick-riddled gameplay showcases, there are a bunch of previews for future game titles. So here’s a look at some highlights from E3 as seen from the point of view of those whose mouths don’t start to water at the sight of a new Call of Duty trailer.

Musings of Mudora X: The Stars Are Doors

infinite

“Booker, are you afraid of God?”
“No, but I’m afraid of you.”

Men love locking girls in towers. Whether it be to hide them from the outside world and all its infectious inhabitants, to contain and hoard their feminine powers or to simply have a nice case for their pretty trophies. For Comstock, I think, its a little bit of everything. Where villains are concerned, he may not be the brightest of the bunch, but he certainly won’t be beat out stylistically. His floating angel-in-the-clouds tower would certainly have Rapunzel’s enchantress put to shame.
