Musings of Mudora XI: Stanley’s Job

With the recent release of the HD remake of The Stanley Parable on Steam, I decided to give the game a spin after hearing promising things about an intriguing demo. I skipped the demo hoping the game would be more rewarding by knowing next to nothing about it. I was right. (Still, having watched the demo afterward I must give them credit for creating a demo that very accurately portrays what the experience will be like while at the same time showing next to nothing of the actual game). This article will offer my brief analysis of the game without spoiling any of the actual in-game events.

Dialogue has been an integral part of human interaction since the beginning of all time. In stories, dialogue can reveal the nature of a character, progress the plot, and create understanding in the audience. If the script is good enough, a single character can dominate a role to the point where the script seems to disappear. The same is true in video game narratives. A large part of our love of certain video game characters comes from our appreciation of not only what they do (actions) but what they say (dialogue).
